Venue
The workshop will be held at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA), which locates in the campus of Peking University, No. 5 Yiheyuan Road, Haidian District, Beijing 100871, China. The venue should be able to welcome about 100 attendees. The PKU campus ( campus map link) is famous for its rich historical heritage and beautiful scenery, especially during the autumn season.
The map below gives the location of KIAA (open it in Google Maps/ Amap). We remind foreign participants that the information in Google Maps may be outdated, and it is recommended to use Amap App when travelling in China, which has English labels and support.
Accommodation
The closest hotels to the venue are
- The Lakeview Hotel Beijing (北京北大博雅国际酒店) (five minutes from KIAA)
- Zhongguan Xinyuan Global Village PKU Beijing (北京大学中关新园) (twenty minutes from KIAA)
You could book these two hotels on their websites or through travel agencies like Booking.com, Expedia, Trip.com, etc. There are also other options to the south of PKU.
Travelling to Beijing
Beijing is a major international hub, served by two international airports:

Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK)
- Taxi: one hour from PKU, ~CN¥110 plus highway fee of CN¥10
- Subway: 1.5 hours from PKU, CN¥30 ( Capital Airport Express plus urban lines)

Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX).
- Taxi: 1.5 hours from PKU, ~CN¥230 plus highway fee of CN¥10
- Subway: 1.5 hours from PKU, CN¥40 ( Daxing Airport Express plus urban lines)
The nearest subway station to KIAA is Peking Univ. East Gate (北京大学东门) of Line 4 .
The taxi fares listed above are estimates for daytime travel under normal traffic conditions. A 20% surcharge applies from 23:00 to 05:00, and additional fees may be charged for slow-moving traffic. Rates on e-hailing platforms may vary. When taking a street-hail taxi, always insist on using the metre. Pay only the metred fare and remember to ask for a receipt.
Transport within Beijing
Beijing has an advanced public transportation network. It is also easy to hail taxis through e-hailing apps.
- Subway. You could take it directly with a supported credit card (UnionPay, MasterCard, Visa, JCB, or American Express). It is also possible to buy single tickets from ticket machines or to travel with QR code using the Alipay app.
- Bus. Pay by coins when getting on the bus (starting from CN¥2) or travel with QR code using the Alipay app (50% off). Remember to scan your QR code both when getting on and off the bus. Map apps provide real-time bus tracking services.
- E-hailing/Taxi. A popular e-hailing app is Didi. Uber does not operate in Chinese Mainland.
We note that during rush hours, taxis and buses may be stuck in traffic jams.

- Visa Requirements
- Visa-free Entry: Citizens holding valid ordinary passports of 50 countries can stay in China for no more than 30 days without a visa. For a full list of eligible countries and specific requirements, please consult the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa-free policy page.
- Visa Applications: If you do not qualify for visa-free entry, you will likely require an F-type (Visitor/Fǎngwèn) visa. We recommend visiting the website of the Chinese Embassy in your country of residence for specific application instructions. Applications are typically processed through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center or submitted directly via the the China Online Visa Application system.
